Scholarship - Postdoctoral Position : Planar Cell Polarity, USA

A postdoctoral position for an outstanding and highly motivated candidate with experience in Drosophila genetics and microscopic methods is available in the Department of Developmental and Molecular Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Our laboratory focuses on molecular aspects of how cells polarize with respect to the epithelial plane (http://jennylab.aecom.yu.edu/). Planar cell polarity (PCP) is a feature of a wide variety of epithelia, including the arrangement of feathers on birds, hair on mammalian skin or such elaborate structures as the cilia on inner earsensory cells essential for hearing. PCP signaling is crucial for the development of many organs and conserved from Drosophila to ascidians and humans. Aberrant PCP signaling can lead to left/right asymmetry inversions, heart and neural tube defects and cystic kidneys. Using the genetic and biochemical tools available with Drosophila as a model system, we study how a directional signal is transmitted and interpreted by individual or groups of cells.

The candidate’s research will benefit from a lively and friendly atmosphere and a strong tradition of collaboration within the College. Albert Einstein College of Medicine is situated in the Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City and offers ready access to the cultural and recreational opportunities in Manhattan and the greater New York area.

Candidates interested should send a C.V., brief summary of research experience and contact information for references toandreas.jenny@aecom.yu.edu.

Application Deadline : 30 October 2010

Tourism and Community Well-Being in the Tropics engineering college scholarships

Tourism and Community Well-Being in the Tropics
Scholarship Description

Tourism is often promoted as a development tool and way to improve the quality of life of communities and regions in the Tropics. But the available evidence suggest that overall benefits of tourism can be slow to emerge, modest at best, restricted to certain groups and often eroded by negative impacts. Research is needed to both critically evaluate current tourism forms and processes and to guide better approaches into the future. This PhD project will explore tourism and its relationships with potential contributions to community well-being. The project will build upon the expertise available in tourism and community research in the Cairns Institute at James Cook University. Applications for the scholarship are sought from qualified candidates with a background in tourism or a relevant disciplinary area. engineering college scholarships How to Pay for College-Scholarships and Grants

How to Pay for College-Scholarships and Grants

Getting higher education can provide a lot of benefits, and the good news is that these benefits are not only for those who can afford to attend college, but for also those students who don’t have the financial resources to pay college tuition fees and other charges. So, if you have the ambition to get a degree in your favorite subject, you may be able to achieve your goal without worrying about how you will pay for college. There are different methods of funding college education, two of which are scholarships and grants.

The benefit that you get with scholarships and grants is that you are not required to pay the money back—its free money. There is a slight difference between scholarships and grants. With scholarships, you have to maintain a certain level of performance, while grants don’t come with any conditions.

Types of Scholarships

The eligibility requirements for scholarships vary greatly. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit (academic, athletic and artistic), ethnicity, disability, marital status, affiliation with the military, association with the medical field, last name, etc. These are just broad descriptions of some scholarship opportunities. In order to learn how topay for college with these and other scholarships, you should get know all the criteria.

Types of Grants

Grants are of several types as well. There are federal grants, such as Pell Grant and Academic Competitiveness (AC) grant; state grants, popular minority grants, grants for women, student-specific grants, such as non-traditional, low income and disabled; etc. As mentioned above, the advantage of this financial aid is that there is no pressure to maintain a certain GPA, however, as a student looking to build a future, you may already be thinking of working hard in college.

To find scholarships and grants, you can go online and Google them. You can also find scholarships by using a scholarship search engine. These sites collect information about different scholarship programs, and when you sign up and provide your information, they match it with the programs present in their database. However, when searching on the net, beware of scam operations. There are many programs that are just interested in ripping off people who mistake them for a legitimate site. One thing you can do to avoid these scams is to look for contact information. An address and business phone number should bepresent—a P O Box number is not good enough.

Scholarships and grants enable you to pay for college and build your career. Consider them if you intend on entering college.
